On this particular piece, it was not something I wanted to do initially - I preferred to let the film speak for itself - but I found it necessary to help promote the piece. I may have some more supplements on the way too, for the same purpose.Joel Bockohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11238338958380683893noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7610074516299275060.post-58667961547751019852013-01-19T15:13:00.672-05:002013-01-19T15:13:00.672-05:00As I briefly mentioned on the previous post, i com...As I briefly mentioned on the previous post, i commend you my friend for a real professional job here. It's superlatively edited and deeply felt. Even as an outsider I connected with some of your personal revelations, admired the arresting visuals and lyrical narration! And that's going on here too. But I also think there's a kind of analogue in your use of "found" still photos, building stories around them. Looking forward to future projects!Jeff Pikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17148737647138431543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7610074516299275060.post-83130943795826078332013-01-16T22:34:19.223-05:002013-01-16T22:34:19.223-05:00Thanks, Jeff! It means a lot for me to hear back from you guys and I'm particularly glad to hear that the film connected emotionally with you.

I couldn't help but have Chris Marker (I almost wrote "Chris Jetee" as well haha) in mind creating this; the Errol Morris connection - presumably you're thinking of the way he uses b-roll? - is interesting and something I wasn't conscious of. I actually haven't seen Dear Zachary yet, though I'm fascinated by the idea of it. And I don't know talhotblond - is it a viral/YouTube thing?

I hope to dedicate 2013 to several things, but second or third among them is to explore/exploit the internet's potential for premiering and promoting films (not just shorts but serialized features). The scuttlebutt is that people will only watch cat videos or video-game tutorials but hell, a century ago people thought no one would sit still in a movie theater for longer than a reel and for anything other than a novelty. But I've yet to see how far others have gone in this direction, which is something I need to look into pronto.

Thanks again for your feedback. Another good thing about completing this project - I can finally get back to visiting other blogs, and am looking forward to returning to your various lists I was exploring last fall...Joel Bockohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11238338958380683893noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7610074516299275060.post-62512363289126327302013-01-16T13:39:43.677-05:002013-01-16T13:39:43.677-05:00Hey Joel, been meaning to let you know how much I ...Hey Joel, been meaning to let you know how much I liked this since I peaked at the first part but decided to wait until the whole thing was up. I love the lo-fi on-the-fly aesthetic and appreciate the way you are seemingly translating it back out of documentaries where it has held such sway (reminds me in various ways of Errol Morris, Chris Jetee, and some true-crimes like Dear Zachary or talhotblond) and returning the aesthetic to narrative/fiction. I liked that even just seeing the first part, but what surprises me about the whole thing is how affecting it is. The characters are believable, even just from the still photos and voiceover, and their stories are surprisingly poignant. I think you have also, whether intended or not, transcended anything specific about one generation and made it much more universal. So a great start, or continuation. Congratulations!Jeff Pikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17148737647138431543noreply@blogger.com
